JUST ASK DADs

August 10, 2012 the FAM activated one of its newest programs (DADs Talk'n) at Doolittle recreation center in Las Vegas. More than 65 teens and pre-teens received a special invite to an exclusive "Just Ask Dads" panel discussion and youth forum. The youth got an opportunity to ask questions and shake hands with some of the Fathers and Men of Professional Basketball Players.

After a brief speech from Johnnie Williams III, the youth were drafted onto 8 teams that would rotate from dad to dad. The FAM was busy dishing out words of wisdom and encouragement; the young participants were busy catching every word. This was truly a magical moment...

Young people sharing their dreams and obstacles with fathers who have raised some of the most successful sons and daughters, providing invaluable advice. A simple concept of multiplying the voices of a few good men upon the ears of many young children.

After the DADs spent more than an hour advising their special guest, the youth were brought back together for the panel discussion where all of the DADs weighed in on audience questions.

At the conclusion of the program, all the students and parents were instructed to pull out raffle tickets that were provided during registration. The FAM arrived with a bike that each of the fathers had signed to promote the message, "a child without a father is like a bike without handle bars". The growing list of DADs joining the FAM all agree that many of our lost boys have fathers missing from their lives. The organization intends to engage in strategic partnerships that produce impactful interactions between good fathers and children who grow up fatherless.

Las Vegas County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly spoke to the students before hosting the bike raffle. At the conclusion of his speech, he asked a parent to assist him in pulling the winning lottery ticket.

But, only in Vegas would the person picking the raffle ticket, actually select their own raffle ticket!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNER...
